Nursing Board: Revised Advisory Ruling 98-01 Holistic Nursing and Complementary/Alternative Modalities

At the March 9, 2011 Board of Registration in Nursing (Board) meeting the Board issued  revisions to Advisory Ruling 98-01 Holistic Nursing and Complementary/Alternative Modalities, updating the formerAdvisory Ruling 98-01 Holistic Nursing and Complementary Therapies.

The Advisory Ruling guides the practice of Registered Nurses and Licensed Practical Nurses who, within their practice, incorporate complementary/alternative modalities (CAM) to meet such nursing and client goals including, but not limited to, increased comfort, relief of pain, relaxation, improved coping mechanisms, reduction of stress, an increased sense of well-being comprehensive health promotion and health risk reduction.

Nursing Board: Revised Advisory Ruling 93-05 Foot Care

At the March 9, 2011 Board of Registration in Nursing (Board) meeting the Board issued revisions to Advisory Ruling 93-05 Foot Care.  

The Advisory Ruling guides the practice of Registered Nurses and Licensed Practical Nurses who, within their practice, incorporate foot care to meet nursing and client goals including, but not limited to, health promotion, client teaching, health risk reduction, and promotion of safety and comfort.

Important Information For Prescribers

As of January 1, 2011, pursuant to MGL 94C, Section 18(e), all prescribers, upon initial application for MA Controlled Substance Registration (MCSR) and subsequently during each APRN license renewal period, must complete education relative to:

  • effective pain management,
  • identification of patients at high risk for substance abuse, and
  • counseling patients about the side effects, addictive nature and proper storage and disposal of prescription medications.
