As ‘home Chapter’ to Sheila Litchfield, WMAOHN is especially proud to see her be the recipient of the 2008 Dorothy Reid Lifetime Achievement Award.
Sheila has been an active WMAOHN member since 1985. She has held nearly every office in the organization, from nominating committee to president, many of them more than once!! She’s also filled every committee position including bylaws and policy & procedure manual.
Sheila always does more than just ‘hold’ an office. Never one to be satisfied with doing things ‘the way they’ve always been done’, she doesn’t hesitate to dig in and do the job better than anyone has done before. Without hesitation she tackles the toughest job and produces outstanding results. As an example, she the driving force behind MaAOHN receiving the 2007 Chapter of the Year Award from AAOHN. Sheila consistently provides us with a superior role model. Her dedication and her desire to “give back” to her peers and to the OHN organizations, from local to national, is an inspiration to all of us.
In addition to running her own business, Litchfield Consulting, Sheila is currently working as the Public Health Nurse for the Town of Rowe. She previously worked with Areva, a company based in France
and traveled extensively in Brazil to do due diligence for hydroelectric facilities. She learned to speak Portuguese so she could communicate with the local people.
Her very first job was OHN and Safety Officer at Yankee Atomic Power Plant in Rowe and she was instrumental in developing safety procedures used during the decommissioning of the facility. Sheila is an Industrial Hygienist.
In her spare time she sings with the Church choir, manages the local food pantry, is a member of the Select board, raises chickens & goats, makes goat cheese, and preserves the bounty of the family vegetable garden.
Sheila is a truly remarkable woman and a joy to call ‘friend’. She is most deserving of the 2008 Dorothy Reid Lifetime Achievement Award.
