The 2006 winner of the MaAOHN Dorothy Reid Life-Time Achievement Award:

Anne Lafontaine

To help us in the presentation of the 2006 Dorothy H. Reid Lifetime Achievement Award, we are extremely honored that Dorothy Reid’s son David is able to join us today; David, can you please join me.

At this time, it is with great pleasure that I introduce the 2006 Dorothy H. Reid Lifetime Achievement Award to MaAOHN member … Anne Lafontaine….

It is a particular honor for me to be in the position of introducing Anne as this year’s award winner because, she is the reason I came to know AAOHN and MaAOHN in the first place. Anne has been my example, my mentor and my good friend for 20 years.

Anne is one of those steady people that one can always count on to do a quality, no nonsense job. One of Anne’s most unique qualities is to find humor in the absurd – just when you are most exasperated with the work, or with other people’s lack of it – Anne comes through with the most perfect rye comment, touched with a sarcasm honed by years of practice. Anne is a valuable cohort indeed- someone who can make you not just smile, but laugh in spite of it all.

Anne’s OHN career began in 1976 when she became convinced of the value of prevention while caring for a 34 year old woman who later died of complications of undiagnosed and untreated cervical cancer – this woman had never had a PAP smear. Anne’s determination led her to become a self-taught Industrial Nurse, and later in 1990, to found her own company, Occupational Safety and Health Training, Incorporated.
