The Massachusetts Association of Occupational Health Nurses presented our first ever Life-Time Achievement Award to a very dear and long standing member on December 3, 2004. The award was keep secret until its announcement at the Awards Luncheon at the annual MaAOHN/NECOEM conference December 3, 2004. So it was with great relief and much pride, announced that the recipient of the 2004 MaAOHN Life-Time Achievement Award, is Maureen Longtin RN, COHN-S, CCM.
Maureen has been a member of MaAOHN for over 25 years, beginning with membership in Greater Boston Chapter and later becoming a founding member of the North of Boston Chapter.
As a member of North of Boston Chapter she served in many capacities. She served two terms as President, was a Director, a member of the education committee and secretary and treasurer.
Maureen is currently the Chair of the Communications Committee for the No. of Boston Chapter and in that capacity is the editor of the North of Boston newsletter, which plays a vital role in keeping members connected. Despite the significant effort involved with the newsletter, she has never failed to put out an issue.
Maureen helped plan and organize the 10th Anniversary celebration for the chapter and is valued also in providing us an historical perspective of the chapter.
Maureen volunteered with the Disaster Response Team of the American Red Cross out of Lowell for many years during the 70's, responding to crises such as fires and attending to major crowd assemblies as part of the emergency response team. One highlight that she recollects is attending a Red Cross booth in the pouring rain during the visit of the Pope in the 70's.
Maureen has also served as treasurer for MAOHN for the past 10 yrs and is stepping down from that position at the end of this year.
Maureen has been a mentor to other nurses through the years and worked diligently with our late member Dorothy Reed in establishing a program to prepare other occupational health nurses for the Occupational Health Nursing certification exam.
Her character is one of integrity, devotion to occupational health nursing, to her family, friends, especially her grandchildren, and an extremely hard worker, who is always friendly, kind and warm. This remarkable woman is also a Cancer survivor and an inspiration to all.
She is a welcoming face to new members and a consistent hand to support MaAOHN through many changes.
Maureen was the OHN at Nashua Corp. for many years prior to her current job as an independent consultant case manager. Representatives of Maureen's employer were also present to join in honoring Maureen Longtin with the MaAOHN Life-Time Achievement Award.
Maureen, I know that I speak for all MaAOHN members in saying I am grateful that I can call you my friend and colleague.
